A Magical Summer Evening in Nagoya
Every year on June 5th, the Atsuta Festival is held an Atsuta Shrine, one of Nagoya’s most important and historic shrines.
I visited the eve festival this year. Since it was the night before the main event, it wasn’t extremely crowded, but the shrine grounds were still lively and full of people enjoying the early summer atmosphere.

After passing through the large torii gate, I found rows of food stalls selling candy apples, taloyaki, fries, castella cakes, and many other festival treats.
People were walking around, eating and enjoying the lively atmosphere.

However, as I walked closer to the main shrine building, everything changed. The crowds became smaller, and the area grew quiet and peaceful. The softly lit lanterns created a magical atmosphere that felt completely different from the busy festival outside.
This contrast was my favorite part of the evening.Even on a festival night, the heart of Atsuta Shrine remained calm and beautiful.
On the main festival day, fireworks are launched from the area around Shirotori Park.
If you visit Nagoya in early June, I highly recommend experiencing the Atsuta Festival for yourself. It is a wonderful mix of excitement, tradition, and tranquility.
